CMS Built By Educators For Educators Makes the Difference
The School District of Whitefish Bay was using a content management system to maintain the district’s Web site. But the product was designed for businesses and Coordinator of Instructional Technology Pam Lee felt the cost was prohibitive. She began looking for another solution.
Instructional technology directors from other school districts told her about CMS4Schools.
“CMS4Schools was set up with schools in mind,” Lee said. “That’s an important part of this. Other content management systems have things business partners want. But they have different needs than schools. CMS4Schools understands schools and they understand our needs.”
The School District of Whitefish Bay launched its site in Summer 2008. Within the first few months, faculty and staff members began creating their own Web pages, taking responsibility for updates other staff members used to complete. Schools that used to send out paper folders filled with announcements and updates every Thursday are now posting those messages online.
“Our staff loves it,” Lee said. “In fact, one of our teachers who used to rent a different site has moved his page to our site. He said it has everything he needs. That is a huge vote of confidence.”
The district is also taking advantage of CMS4Schools’ events calendars, slide shows, integration with www.highschoolsports.net and quarterly networking sessions for CMS4Schools users. Lee said it’s obvious why so many IT Directors were talking about CMS4Schools.
“It works better.”
